Mary Jo Darrow
Mary Jo Darrow, 77, of Newton,
homemaker, died Sunday (April 4, 1999) at Newton Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 6, 1921, in El Paso,
Texas, to Francis and Velma (Rodgers) Scott. She married Floyd F.
Darrow May 14, 1943, at Post Chapel Air Force Base in Columbus, Miss.
He survives of Newton.
She was a member of First Presbyterian
Church and PEO, both of Newton and Jobs Daughters of Albuquerque,
N.M.
She was a 1939 graduate of Albuquerque
New Mexico High School, where she served as the editor of the high
school newspaper called The Record. She also received several awards
in marksmanship with a rifle and pistol in high school. She was a
1943 graduate of University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M., where
she received a bachelors degree in Elementary Education.
She also was a member of Alpha Delta Pi
Sorority, where she served as president. She was elected homecoming
queen in 1943, her senior year of college. After college she served
as a chapter advisor for Alphi Delta Pi Sorority for 15 years.
Other survivors include: two sons,
Patrick C. Darrow of Topeka and Roger B. Darrow of Newton; one
daughter, Dona Lyn Wilpolt of Sante Fe, N.M.; nine grandchildren; and
one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m.
Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in Newton with Rev. James W.
Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the National Cemetery in
Sante Fe, N.M.
Memorials have been established with
Building and Grounds Committee of First Presbyterian Church in care
of Petersen Funeral Home.
