Elmer Hanke
Elmer Hanke, 87, 1200 E. Seventh,
retired stockroom clerk from Hesston Manufacturing died Tuesday
(April 6, 1999) at Presbyterian Manor.
He was born March 8, 1912, in Goessel
to Henry Harry and Grace Isabel (Letkemann) Hanke.
He was baptized May 24, 1931, in the
Goessel Mennonite Church. He became a member of the First Mennonite
Church in Newton Dec. 9, 1973.
He also was employed as a bookkeeper at
Fred Harvey Bottling in Newton for 22 years. After his retirement he
and his brothers started a painting business. He was a graduate of
Goessel High School and attended Bethel College for a short time.
He was a avid bowler and was a league
member at Play-Mor Lanes. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cards and
traveling.
Survivors include one brother, Harry
Hanke of Newton; and one sister, Esther Dirksen of Iron Mountain,
Mich. He was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m.
Friday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Clarence Rempel
from First Mennonite Church in Newton officiating. Burial will be in
the Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at
the funeral home.
Memorials have been established with
Central Homecare and Hospice Inc., and Meals on Wheels in care of the
funeral home.
