Clayton Miles
Clayton Miles, 75, 413 High St. retired
air condition technician and customer serviceman for KPL Gas Service,
died Friday (April 9, 1999) at Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.
He was born March 7, 1924, in Bucyrus,
Mo., to Willie Posie and Frances Pauline (Robinson) Miles. He married
Dorothy Louise Medley Jan. 31, 1945, in Newton. She survives of
Newton.
He was a member of First Baptist Church
in Newton, where he was head usher for 15 years and USWA Local No.
13417. He was U.S. Coast Guard veteran and Chief Petty officer during
World War II. He also was a member of the Newton Public Golf Course.
He was former owner and operator of Miles Filter Service.
He was an avid golfer and it was his
favorite past time. He also was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. He
worked for more than 40 years in the funeral service for Drapers,
Petersens and was employed at Broadway Colonial.
Other survivors include: one son, Duane
C. Miles of Sterling, Colo.; two brothers, Eugene Miles of Hesston
and James Miles of Chico, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m.
Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Newton with the Rev. Alden Dick
officiating. Burial will be in the Restlawn Gardens of Memory in
rural Newton.
Friends may call until 9 p.m. today at
Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
Memorials have been established with
American Heart Association or First Baptist Church in care of the
funeral home.
