Arthur E. Smith
HUTCHINSON -- Arthur E. Smith, 83, of
Hutchinson, a 41- year employee of the former Straw Board Co.,
retiring in 1978, died Wednesday (April 14, 1999) at Halstead
Hospital. He was the father of Patricia J. Trent of Newton.
He was born Oct. 25, 1915, in Buffalo,
Okla., to George Walker and Esther Irene (Row) Smith. He married
Esther R. Chitwood June 27, 1937, in Hutchinson. She survives.
He was a longtime Hutchinson resident.
He was a 1935 graduate of Buhler Senior High. He was a charter member
of Bethany Church of the Nazarene in Hutchinson.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War
II, where he was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
Other survivors include: another
daughter, Phylliss M. Leffel of Rogers, Ark.; two brothers, Dwayne
Smith of Denver, and Robert Smith of Texas; six grandchildren; and
nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother,
Glen Smith.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m.
Saturday at Bethany Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Darrell
Bisel officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call until 9 p.m. today and
9 a.m. to noon Saturday with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
today at Elliott Mortuary in Hutchinson.
Memorials have been established with
Hospice of Reno County in care of the funeral home.
