John Wesley Hawkins
WICHITA -- John Wesley Hawkins, 83,
died Monday (April 19, 1999) at Wichita.
He was born March 1, 1916, in
Wellesville, Mo., to Ed and Lena (Ball) Hawkins. He married Dorothy
Mae Brown April 7, 1942. She preceded him in death Sept. 14, 1985.
He was a member of Hall's Chapel A.M.E.
Church in Newton. He was self-employed as a drywall finisher and
installer. He also worked several years at Pratt Junior College.
Survivors include: one daughter, Weslee
Mitchell of Topeka; seven grandchildren; and host of nieces and
nephews. He also was preceded in death by one son, four brothers and
three sisters.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m.
Saturday at Hall's Chapel A.M.E., and burial will be in the Greenwood
Cemetery, both in Newton.
