Scheffler dedicated time to Newton Public Library

Jim Scheffler was dedicated to the Newton Public Library. Scheffler, who died Sunday at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus was a library board member from 1982 to 1990. And he served as the library board representative on Second Century Endowment Foundation for the library when it was incorporated in 1986. The library will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to noon Thursday so staff can attend Scheffler's funeral. Scheffler was a retired manager of North and South Dillons grocery stores, where he worked for 45 years. Scheffler, 79, retired in 1980. Scheffler's wife, Evelyn, also was a library board member.
