Obera Ruth Janzen
HESSTON — Obera Ruth Janzen, 64,
homemaker, died Saturday (May 15, 1999) at her home in Hesston.
She was born Nov. 19, 1934, in Meno,
Okla., to Joseph and Eva (Koehn) Eck. She married Arlo Janzen Oct.
17, 1952, at First Mennonite Church in Newton. He survives of
Hesston.
She also was a mother who welcomed her
children’s friends and the neighborhood children.
She was a charter member of Hesston
Inter-Mennonite Fellowship, where she was active in women’s groups
and served as librarian for a number of years. She was a 1952
graduate of Newton High School.
Other survivors include: six sons,
Curtis Janzen of El Dorado, David E. Janzen and Robert Janzen, both
of Hesston, Mahlon Janzen of Boise, Idaho, Steven Janzen of
Harleysville, Pa., and Timothy Janzen of Cartersville, Ga.; one
daughter, Eva Janzen Powell of Oak Park, Ill.; two brothers, Detrich
Eck of Newton and Paul Eck of Elk Falls; five sisters, Malinda Guhr
and Eva Lena Suderman, both of Newton, Lillian Gunnels of Goddard,
Marie Matz of Kechi and Margaret Miller of Hillsboro; 12
grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and seven step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Frieda Eck
and Bertha Jantz.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m.
Tuesday at Eastlawn Cemetery in rural Zimmerdale, conducted by
Pastors Waldo and Scott Miller. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m.
Tuesday at Hesston Inter-Mennonite Fellowship in Hesston with Pastor
Scott Miller officiating.
Friends may call until 9 p.m. today
with family greeting friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Petersen
Funeral Home.
Memorials have been established with
Central Homecare and Hospice Inc., Hesston Inter-Mennonite Fellowship
and Local Sharing Fund in care of the funeral home.
