Gail R. Ward
Gail R. Ward, 84, 400 Lakeshore Drive,
retired owner of Dodge-Chrysler-American Motors New Car Agency in
Newton, died Monday (May 24, 1999) at his residence.
He was born Nov. 27, 1914, in Otoe,
Neb., to Charles E. and Maude (Teel) Ward. He married Mary Jane
Connell Nov. 14, 1940, in Wichita. She survives of Newton.
He was an active member of the Zion
Lutheran Church in Newton, where he served more than 44 years on many
church boards.
He and his parents moved to Caldwell in
1928, where he graduated from high school. He was a 1933 graduate of
Wichita Business College. He was one of the original stock holders
and secretary of Kings X Corp. from 1938 to 1948. He and his wife
owned and operated a restaurant in Ellinwood for four years. He sold
real estate in Wichita until 1954, at which time he purchased half of
Dodge Agency in Newton. He acquired the agency in 1959, which he
operated until his retirement in 1979.
There were no other immediate
survivors. He was preceded in death by one brother, Keith Ward.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m.
Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ronald Gloe
officiating. Entombment will be in the Greenwood Mausoleum in Newton.
Friends may call until 9 p.m. today at Broadway Colonial Funeral
Home.
