Loyd, Mary Ellen Corman

The Newton Kansan

   Mary Ellen Loyd, 95, widow of Dr. Paul Torrence Loyd passed away March 29,2014 at Presbyterian Mannor in Newton.  She was born July 1, 1918 to Ed and Ella Rapp Corman in ElDorado.  She grew up in ElDorado and graduated from ElDorado High School, where she established many lifelong friendships. She was a graduate of Kansas State University with a degree in home economics and was a member of Pi Bet Phi soroity.  She continued to enjoy her association and t ravels with other Pi  Phi alums throughout herlife.

   After paul's discharge from the Army, they settled in Newton, where Mary Ellen quuickly became involved with the community.  She was a volunteer Scout leader, was involved with a number of groups and activities including Junior Reading Circle; Supper Club; Lambs Investment Club and the Women's Golf Asoc at the Newton Country Club.  She was an active member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church and was passionate about bridge and played with the same group for over 50 years.

   She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her four children, 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

  Survivors: children, Jayne Nordstrom (Ed); Jody Ensign (Don) and Mike Loyd (Jill).  She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, son, Thomas, paents and brother Merrill Corman.

   Services will be held April 2nd at St. Mathews Episcopal Church in Newton.
