Leo O'Keefe
Leo O'Keefe, 84, 200 S.W. 14th,
switchman for the Santa Fe Railroad, retiring March 1, 1980, died
Thursday (June 3, 1999) at Friendly Acres Retirement Community.
He was born March 1, 1915, in Sedgwick
to John and Clara (Vetter) O'Keefe. He married Avis M. Eshom Nov. 25,
1937, in Newton. She preceded him in death Feb. 6, 1967. He married
Mildred Schofield Mathis in 1968 in Newton. She also preceded him in
death Dec. 4, 1988.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic
Church, Knights of Columbus and was a former member of Eagles Lodge,
Aerie No. 2516, all of Newton. He enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include: two sons, Robert
O'Keefe of Olathe and Eugene O'Keefe of Winder, Ga.; one brother,
Melvin O'Keefe of Newton; one sister, Helen Ambler of Newton; and
three grandchildren.
Rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday
at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m.
Monday also at the church with Father Ken Schuckman officiating.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may call until 9 p.m. today, 9
a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Broadway Colonial
Funeral Home.
Memorials have been established with
St. Mary's Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
