Gladys Ruth Claypool
WICHITA -- Gladys Ruth Claypool, 99,
formerly of Whitewater, retired school teacher, died Tuesday (June
22, 1999) at Andover.
She was born Oct. 4, 1899, in
Whitewater to Mason P. and Cora Nevada (Metz) Claypool.
She attended Claypool Grade School,
Whitewater High School and Normal Training School, all in Butler
County, and Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia and Whittier
College in Whittier, Calif. She taught school for nearly 50 years in
Kansas and California. She began teaching in Butler County and also
taught at Golden Gate, Victor, Claypool, El Dorado, Brainerd and
Whitewater. She moved to California in 1945, and taught in Upland,
Calif., until retirement.
She was an active member of Church of
Christ. She also was a member of Kansas State Teachers Association,
California State Teachers Association, National Education
Association, Retired Teachers Association, Upland Travel Club, Ladies
Association for Senior Services and Upland Women's Club.
She moved to Wichita in 1995, and
recently moved to Andover Health Care Center.
She enjoyed crafts, creative writing,
painting pictures, singing and church activities.
There were no immediate survivors. She
was preceded in death by one brother, Frank Claypool; seven sisters,
Hattie Stuart, Rilla Crabtree, Della McCann, Pearl Paul, Thurza
Hawes, Pauline Claypool and Mildred Claypool; and an infant brother
and sister.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m.
Thursday at Bob Lamb Funeral Home Chapel in Whitewater with Grant
Goodvin officiating. Burial will be in the Whitewater Cemetery.
Friends may call until 8:30 p.m. today
and 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
