James M. Dirks
James M. Dirks, 77, of North Newton,
supervisor for 21 years at Hay and Forage in Hesston, died Saturday
(July 17, 1999) at Kidron Bethel Health Care.
He was born April 13, 1922, in Great
Bend to Peter S. and Bertha (Smith) Dirks. He married Eldean Unruh
Sept. 5, 1942, in Pawnee Rock. She survives of North Newton.
He was former owner of a sand and
gravel business, Standard oil business and farmer, all in Great Bend.
He was a member of Bergthal Mennonite
Church in Pawnee Rock prior to transferring his membership to Faith
Mennonite Church in Newton. He also was a member of Hesston Corp.
Workers Association. He sang in a quartet. He was a sportsman and
enjoyed outdoors, water skiing, yard and flowers.
Other survivors include one son, Dean
A. Dirks of Chicago; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by
three brothers, Milton M. Dirks, Waldo K. Dirks and Melvin W. Dirks;
and two sisters, Bertha M. Dirks and Edna M. Dirks.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m.
Tuesday at Faith Mennonite Church with the Rev. Gordon Smith and
Chaplain Amanda Rempel from Kidron Bethel Village officiating.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Bergthal Mennonite
Cemetery in Pawnee Rock.
Friends may call until 9 p.m. today
with family greeting friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at Petersen
Funeral Home.
Memorials have been established with
Kidron Bethel Health Care or Faith Mennonite Church Choir Fund in
care of the funeral home.
