Dewey E. Wedel

HESSTON -- Dewey E. Wedel, 92, retired city employee and farmer, died Wednesday (July 21, 1999) at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.

He was born Sept. 1, 1906, in McPherson County to Abraham and Lena (Koehn) Wedel. He married Evelyn Smith June 2, 1929. She preceded him in death in 1974.

He and his family moved to Kiowa County when he was 6 years old. He resided there for 88 years. He moved to Hesston in 1996, to live at Hickory Homes. He was a member of Bethel Church of God in Christ Mennonite in Greensburg.

Survivors include: three sons, Kenneth Wedel of Meade, Merlin Wedel of Hesston and Larry Wedel of Grove, Okla.; two brothers, Jess Wedel of Clearlake, Calif., and Wes Wedel of Evert, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by one son, Charles Wedel.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Bethel Church of God in Christ Mennonite Church in Greensburg. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Fleener Funeral Home in Greensburg.

Memorials have been established with Hickory Homes in Hesston and Bethel Church of God in Christ Mennonite in care of the funeral home.
