Gertrude Catherine Harms
O'FALLON, Mo. -- Gertrude Catherine
Harms, 83, formerly of Newton and longtime Augusta resident, died
Thursday (Aug. 5, 1999) at Garden View Care Center in O'Fallon, Mo.
She was born Feb. 17, 1916, in Newton
to Henry and Lydia (Toews) Enz. She graduated from Newton High School
in 1934. She married John V. Harms Sept. 25, 1938, in Newton. He
preceded her in death in 1996.
She was a retired secretary of the
First Baptist Church in Augusta. She served as a Sunday school
teacher, a leader of American Baptist Women, a deaconess, a choir
member and a member of the church library committee.
Survivors include: a daughter, Joan
Elaine Dotson of Lake St. Louis, Mo.; two sons, Duane Eugene Harms of
Woodbury, Minn., and Allan Richard Harms of Derby; two brothers,
Arthur Enz of Newton and Jacob Enz of Elkhart, Ind.; nine
grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her
parents.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday
at First Baptist Church in Augusta with Dr. Robert Box officiating.
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta. Visitation will be
noon to 8 p.m. Monday at Dunsford Chapel in Augusta.
Memorials are suggested for First
Baptist Church library and Gideons International in care of the
funeral home.
