Thelma Louise Johnson Ewert
Thelma Louise Johnson Ewert, 88,
homemaker, resident at Friendly Acres Retirement Community, died
Tuesday (Sept. 21, 1999) at Halstead Hospital.
She was born Aug. 29, 1911, at Axtell
Hospital in Newton to James Clark and Alexis (Spalding) Johnson. She
married Albert Ewert Sept. 2, 1933, at the First Methodist Church in
Newton. He preceded her in death April 13, 1986.
She was a lifelong member of First
United Methodist Church in Newton, where she was a member of the
Fidelis Class and Rachel Circle and held various offices locally and
regionally in United Methodist Women. She was a lifetime member of
the Parent-Teacher Association and was the first woman member of the
Newton Board of Education. She was a driver for Meals on Wheels and a
member of the Home Demonstration Unit, Harvey County Extension
Service, Macon Improvement Club, Women's Auxiliary of Railway Clerks
and Who's Who of American Women. She enjoyed Bible study at the
church, needlepoint, quilting, flowers and plants.
Survivors include: three sons, Theron
J. Ewert of Dallas, Darrell J. Ewert of Denver and David W. Ewert of
Gig Harbor, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m.
Saturday at First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Jay Anderson
and retired Rev. Phil Chastain officiating. Burial will be in the
Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday
with family greeting friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at Petersen Funeral
Home.
Memorials have been established with
First United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
