Waldo D. Schmidt
Waldo D. Schmidt, 69, 705 E. 11th,
former construction worker for Harvey County, died Wednesday (Sept.
22, 1999) at Newton Medical Center.
He was born May 13, 1930, in Lehigh to
David F. and Mary (Goertz) Schmidt.
He was a member of VFW and American
Legion. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and
received the Purple Heart. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and
building bird houses.
Survivors include: one son, Phil
Schmidt of Newton; one daughter, Lavonne Ratcliff of Bethany, Okla.;
one brother, Willard Schmidt of Newton; four sisters, Malinda Janzen
of Hesston, Rose Friesen of Newton, Viola Tilson of Anaheim, Calif.,
and Elsie Foth of Peabody; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in
death by his parents; one brother, Clarence Schmidt; and one sister,
Ann Reimer.
Graveside services and burial will be
10 a.m. Saturday at Restlawn Gardens of Memory with pastor Verney
Unruh from First Mennonite Church in Newton officiating.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today
and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Petersen Funeral Home.
Memorials have been established with
Central Homecare and Hospice in care of the funeral home.
