James A. Snyder, 84, passed away at Schowalter Villa, Hesston April 5, 2014. He was preceded in death y a brother and sister, Robert J. and Barbara Snyder, as well as his parents, Paul V. and Kathryn L. Snyder. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Maria L. Rivera De Snyder.
Survivors: wife of 58 years, son, Jeff (Kim) Snyder; daughter, Lisa (Daryl) Hostetler and four grandchildren.; one sister, Sara (George) Friesen of Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada.
Jim was born in Washington, Iowa on September 26, 1929. He graduated from Hesston Academy in 1947 and went on to earn a BA starting at Hesston College in 1949 and concluding at Goshen College in 1951. He then went on to Indiana University School of Social Work, where he began work on his master's degree between 1954 and 1955.
He worked for the Y.M.C.A., Hesston College and as a respiratory therapist. Regardless of the job he worked, Jim's interest was always working with people. He enjoyed his family, being a pilot and flying, camping, photography and eventually genealogy.
Memorial service will be held at the Schowalter Villa Chapel, 200 W. Cedar, Hesston on April 14.
Private family inurnment is planned at a later date.
