Eldon A. Regier
Eldon A. Regier, 59, of Newton, died
Wednesday (Oct. 13, 1999) at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St.
Francis Campus.
He was born Feb. 3, 1940, at Bethel
Deaconess Hospital in Newton to Willard H. and Olga (Regier) Regier.
His father survives of Newton. He married Della G. Classen Oct. 3,
1964, in Meade. She survives of Newton.
He attended Elbing Grade School and
Berean Academy in Elbing, where he graduated in 1957. He also
attended Bethel College in North Newton before going back to farming.
He served 1W service from 1958 to 1960, in Indianapolis.
Eldon was a partner with his parents in
farming until his father retired, then he farmed with his wife until
1991. He worked for Epp's Service, driving a fuel truck from 1984 to
1993. He recently worked for Farmers Grain COOP in Burns and Benton.
He was a member of Koerner Heights
Mennonite Brethren Church in Newton, where he served as elder, Sunday
school teacher, usher and recently the chairman of the missions
committee. He was a board member at Berean Academy during the 1980s.
He enjoyed trains and traveling. He and his wife took their last
train ride to the Grand Canyon.
Other survivors include: three
daughters, Janene Freerksen of Topeka, Jeanette Regier of Belton,
Mo., and Kristine Edgren of Newton; one sister, Lois Wiens of Newton;
two brothers, Bob Schmidt of Newton and Duane Schmidt of Paoli, Ind.;
and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother when
he was 12, and a step-mother, Elma Ruth Regier.
Family graveside services will be in
the Greenwood Cemetery in Newton. Celebration services will be 4:30
p.m. Saturday at Koerner Heights Mennonite Brethren Church with the
Rev. Mark Isaac officiating.
Friends may call until 9 p.m. today and
9 a.m. to noon Saturday with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8
p.m. today at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
Memorials have been established with
Berean Academy and Koerner Heights Mennonite Brethren Church in care
of the funeral home.
