MOUNDRIDGE -- Floyd P. Gehring, who
owned a thriving real estate and auction business in Moundridge, was
killed in a car accident Saturday in rural McPherson County.
Gehring, 68, died at the scene of the
accident at the intersection of Cherokee and 25th Avenue, about five
miles northeast of Moundridge, the McPherson County Sheriff's
Department reported
His 1989 Ford truck was struck at about
7:30 a.m. at the intersection by a 1990 Pontiac Grand Am driven by
Dale Knoll of Moundridge. Knoll was taken to the hospital in
Moundridge where he was treated and released, McPherson County
Undersherrif Jim Johnston said.
Gehring's truck was northbound on 25th
Avenue, while Knoll's car was eastbound on Cherokee. The two vehicles
collided at the unmarked intersection. Gehring's truck was struck
near the rear wheels on driver's side, Johnston said. The truck
tumbled end over end at least once, he said, and Gehring was thrown
from vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Johnston said Knoll went to closest
house and called 9-1-1 after the accident.
Gehring's auction career spanned
several decades. And he was dedicated to the industry he loved.
He was a member of the Kansas State
Auctioneers Hall of Fame, member of the National Auctioneers
Associations, member, past-president and former board member of the
Kansas State Auctioneers Association.
He also was a member for 20 years of
the Mennonite Central Committee Relief Sale Board and a member of the
McPherson Opera House Association.
He is survived by his wife Jane M.
Gehring of Moundridge; two sons, Dennis Gehring and Dick Gehring,
both of Moundridge; and two daughters, Bonnie Voth of Newton and
Peggy J. Schoenecker of Moundridge.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m.
Wednesday at Eden Mennonite Church in rural Moundridge.
