Jacob S. Schmidt

GOESSEL -- Jacob S. Schmidt, 80, of Goessel, died Monday (Nov. 15, 1999) at Newton Medical Center. He was a farmer and factory worker, where he worked at Hay and Forage in Hesston for 25 years.

He was born March 14, 1919, in Marion County to Heinrich R. and Susanna (Schroeder) Schmidt. He married Laura Schroeder Nov. 15, 1942, in Goessel. She survives of Goessel.

He was a member of Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church near Goessel. He was a lifetime Goessel area resident, moving from the farm near Goessel to Goessel in 1978.

Other survivors include: three sons, Vernon Schmidt of Newton and Norman Schmidt and Larry Schmidt, both of Goessel; one brother, Will S. Schmidt of Goessel; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Dewane Schmidt.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church with the Revs. James Dunn and Mark Wiens officiating. Burial will be in the Goessel Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home in Goessel.

Memorials have been established with Goessel Senior Center or Mennonite Heritage Museum in care of the funeral home.
