Joe L. Howard
Joe L. Howard, 73, of Newton, died
Monday (Nov. 22, 1999) at Halstead Hospital. He was a U.S. Postal
Service clerk, retiring in 1988 after 32 years of service.
He was born Aug. 11, 1926, in Newton to
Pete and Reba Ruth (Ragland) Howard. He married Vicki Klassen Sept.
15, 1950, in Newton. She survives of Newton.
He was a lifelong Newton resident. He
graduated from Newton High School and attended Kansas State
University.
He was a member of Trinity Heights
United Methodist Church in Newton, where he served on various
committees and was involved in Mission trips for the church. He also
was a member of NARFE, Elks Club and American Legion.
He was a volunteer for American Red
Cross, Newton Medical Center, Senior Center and many hours at the
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance.
He was in the U.S. Navy during World
War II, where he served as a motor machinist mate third class.
Other survivors include: two sons, Jeff
Howard of Garden Plain and Greg Howard of Chesterfield, Mo.; one
daughter, Priscilla Webb of Newton; two brothers, Melvin Howard of
Dodge City and Duane Howard of Wellsville; and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his
parents.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m.
Saturday at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don
Swender officiating. Burial will be in the Restlawn Gardens of Memory
in Newton.
Friends may call until 9 p.m. today and
9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.

Trinity Heights United Methodist Church and Central Homecare and
Hospice in care of the funeral home.
