Opal E. Sowards
Opal E. Sowards, 89, homemaker,
formerly of 101 Alice Ave., died Wednesday (Nov. 24, 1999) at Kidron
Bethel Healthcare in North Newton, Kansas.
She was born Oct. 18, 1910, near Kiowa,
Kansas, in Barber County to James G. Myers and Anna H. (Edwards)
Myers. She married Luther A. Sowards in Raton, N.M. He preceded her
in death Oct. 30, 1981.
She came to Newton in 1959 from
Medicine Lodge and was a resident of Kidron Bethel Healthcare since
August 1994.
She was a member of Newton Assembly of
God Church.
Survivors include: daughter and
son-in-law, Linda and Henry Neufeld; granddaughter, Bethany Neufeld;
and great-grandson, Tyler Lane Neufeld, all of Newton; and several
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four
brothers, James L. Myers, Frank E. Myers, Dewey E. Myers and Ralph E.
Myers; and four sisters, Bertha E. Bond, Florence M. Myers, Ethel M.
Myers and Ruth W. Sowards.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday
at Petersen Funeral Home with Pastor John Hubbard officiating. Burial
will be in the Restlawn Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Friends may call 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials have been established with
Kidron Bethel Healthcare in care of the funeral home.
