Arthur J. Scheffler
Arthur J. Scheffler, 83, 811 N. Ash,
died today (Nov. 30, 1999) at Columbia Wesley Medical Center in
Wichita. He was a Newton Fire Department employee for 31 years,
retiring in 1977 as captain.
He was born Nov. 27, 1916, in Newton to
William and Martha (Sadowski) Scheffler. He married Catherine Lies
Nov. 26, 1946, in Newton. She survives of Newton.
He was a member of American Legion,
VFW, Knights of Columbus and Ducks Unlimited.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, where he
served in England and France during World War II.
Other survivors include: two sons, Ross
Scheffler of Newton and Leon Scheffler of Dallas; two daughters,
Barbara Schuster of Overland Park and Jody Meier of Newton; three
brothers, Harris Scheffler of Wichita, Morris Scheffler of Newton and
Bill Scheffler of Colwich; two sisters, Doris Beyrle and Maxine
Friend, both of Wichita; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; one brother, Jim Scheffler; and two sisters, Trudy Dillman
and Elaine Barham.
Rosary service will be 8 p.m. Wednesday
at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newton. Funeral services will be 10
a.m. Thursday also at the church with Father Ken Schuckman
officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today
and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Petersen Funeral Home.
