Barbara Jean Stroberg

Barbara Jean Stroberg, 79, of Newton, homemaker, died Monday (Jan. 3, 2000) at Newton Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 16, 1920, in Charleroi, Pa., to Edgar and Grace (Taggart) Beechley. She married Vernon A. Stroberg Aug. 7, 1943, in San Francisco. He preceded her in death July 12, 1990.

She was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Newton, Women of St. Matthews Episcopal Church and past member of Ladies Reading Circle.

Survivors include: one son, Thomas B. Stroberg of Hutchinson; two daughters, Karen Curtis of Tulsa, Okla., and Kristine Heinemann of Topeka; and four grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Col. John C. Beechley.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. today at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Newton with the Rev. Joyce Holmes officiating. Burial will be in the St. Matthew's Episcopal Church Columbarium.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. today before the memorial service at the church.

Memorials have been established with St. Matthews Episcopal Church Operational Endowment Fund in care of Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
