Ionia Molzen Sissom
Ionia Molzen Sissom, 96, of Newton,
homemaker and Newton city bookkeeper for 15 years, retiring in 1965,
died Thursday (Jan. 6, 2000) at Presbyterian Manor.
She was born Feb. 11, 1903, in Walton
to William F. and Mirena Belle (Crain) Gordon. She married Walter N.
Molzen Nov. 17, 1924, in Newton. He preceded her in death July 11,
1950. She married Walter M. Sissom Feb. 18, 1961, in Newton. He also
preceded her in death May 26, 1981.
She was a 1921 graduate of Newton High
School. She was a member of Business and Professional Women's
organization, Business and Professional Women's past presidents'
group, First Baptist Church in Newton and ABW women's organization of
the church.
Survivors include: one daughter,
Clarene Wilms of Topeka; one son, Dayton F. Molzen of Albuquerque,
N.M.; six grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by two
brothers, Lester C. Gordon and Albert Gordon; one sister, Beulah
Vogt; and step-son, Max Sissom.
Graveside services and burial will be 2
p.m. Saturday at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton with the Rev. L. Ray
Young from First Baptist Church in Newton officiating.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today
at Petersen Funeral Home.
Memorials have been established with
Presbyterian Manor, Good Samaritan Fund and First Baptist Church in
care of the funeral home.
