Richard L. Miller
HESSTON -- Richard L. Miller, 93, of
Hesston, died Saturday (Jan. 8, 2000) at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.
He was born Nov. 25, 1906, in Jet,
Okla., to Alf B. and Lavina (Yoder) Miller. He married Ida Yoder Aug.
8, 1940, in Manitou Springs, Colo. She preceded him in death March
13, 1995.
He was a Hesston resident since 1995,
moving from South Hutchinson. He was formerly of Tijeras, N.M. He
grew up on farms in Oklahoma and Kansas.
He graduated from Hesston College,
where he received a degree in education. He taught in a one room
country school near Limon, Colo.
He worked for the U.S. Postal Service
in Hutchinson and Washington, D.C. He retired as postmaster in 1973.
He moved to Tijeras, N.M. in the mid 1940s, where he lived for 30
years. In August 1991, he moved to Mennonite Friendship Manor and
then Schowalter Villa.
He was a member of Yoder Mennonite
Church.
Survivors include: one sister, Louise
Headings of Steinbach, Monitoba, Canada; one brother, David Miller of
Goshen, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by his
parents; two brothers, Lawrence Miller and Alfred Miller; and one
sister, Bernice Bontrager.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m.
Thursday at Yoder Mennonite Church with the Rev. Peter E. Hartman
officiating. Burial will be in the Yoder Mennonite Church Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Tuesday and Wednesday at Johnson and Sons Funeral Home in Hutchinson.
Memorials have been established with
Schowalter Villa Special Care Unit in care of the funeral home.
