Clara I. Smith

HESSTON -- Clara I. Smith, 88, of Hesston, homemaker, died Monday (Jan. 17, 2000) at Newton Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 16, 1911, in Elida, Ohio, to Clark T. and Elizabeth (Good) Berry. She married Norman O. Smith Oct. 6, 1930, in Lima, Ohio. He preceded her in death.

She was a member of Salem Mennonite Church in Elida, Ohio. She lived in Elida, Ohio, Kalida, Ohio, and Jackson, Ohio. She moved to Hickory Home in Hesston in 1989, and to Schowalter Villa in 1999.

Survivors include: two sons, Paul Smith of New Carlisle, Ind., and Kenneth Smith of Palmer Lake, Colo.; two daughters, Marjorie L. Harms of Newton and Glenna Kirkendall of Elida, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Saturday afternoon at Salem Mennonite Church in Elida, Ohio, with the Rev. Mel Hathaway officiating. Burial will be in the Salem Mennonite Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Harter and Son Funeral Home in Delphos, Ohio.

Memorials have been established with Lima Rescue Mission in care of Harter and Son Funeral Home, 209 W. Third, Delphos OH 45833.

Miller Funeral Home in Hesston is in charge of local arrangements.
