Genevieve Hope McElwain
PONCA CITY, Okla. -- Genevieve Hope
McElwain, 94, former clerk for Harvey County ASCS office, died Monday
(Jan. 31, 2000) at Shawn Manor Nursing Home in Ponca City.
She was born Oct. 5, 1905, in Burrton
to Alonzo Burton and Carra Gertrude (Hamma) Giggy. She married Fearl
C. McElwain June 24, 1925, in McPherson. He preceded her in death in
1954.
She was a member of Salem United
Methodist Church in Newton, National Secretaries Association,
Daughters of the American Revolution, Friendship Circle in Burrton
and NARFE.
She was a Burrton area resident for 55
years. She moved to Newton, where she lived from 1958 to 1995. She
moved to Ponca City in 1995.
Survivors include: one son, David
McElwain of Liberal; one daughter, Ann Vap of Ponca City, Okla.; two
brothers, Karl "Pete" Giggy of Houston, and Gordon Giggy of
Woodstock, Calif.; two sisters, Elizabeth Armstrong of Derby and Jean
Shaft of Burrton; 10 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by two
sons, Robert McElwain and Cecil McElwain; two brothers, Keith Giggy
and Kenneth Giggy; and two sisters, Bernice Ragland and Wilda Dunn.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m.
Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Halstead with the Rev.
James Mardock officiating. Burial will be in the Halstead Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m.
Wednesday at Kaufman Funeral Home in Halstead.
Memorials have been established with
Hospice of Ponca City in care of the funeral home.
