ELBING -- A Newton woman was killed and
a Newton man seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday
morning just east of Elbing.
Elizabeth Regier, 79, of Newton, died
at Columbia-Wesley Medical Center in Wichita about 90 minutes after
the 8:39 a.m. crash. She was taken by LifeWATCH helicopter to Wesley
after the accident.
Louie T. Smith, also 79 and of Newton,
was taken by ambulance to Newton Medical Center, where he is listed
in fair condition today.
According to reports obtained from the
Butler County Sheriff's Department, the Regier vehicle was northbound
on Meadowlark when the driver apparently failed to yield the right of
way to the Smith vehicle, which was eastbound on Northwest 150th.
