Elizabeth Lohrenz, 86, of Newton, died
Wednesday (Feb. 9, 2000) at Friendly Acres Retirement Community.
Memorial services will be 2:30 p.m.
Sunday at Bethel College Mennonite Church in North Newton with the
Rev. Norma Johnson officiating.

Elizabeth Claassen Lohrenz
Elizabeth Claassen Lohrenz, 86, of
Newton, died Wednesday (Feb. 9, 2000) at Friendly Acres Retirement
Community.
She was born Feb. 1, 1914, at home near
Beatrice, Neb., to Henry A. and Helene (Penner) Claassen. She married
Cornelius P. "C.P." Lohrenz June 16, 1946, in Beatrice. He
survives of North Newton.
She attended country schools in Gage
County, Neb., Beatrice High School and Peru State Teacher College.
She earned a bachelor of arts degree from Bethel College in North
Newton. She taught in rural Nebraska schools and third grade at
Charlton schools in Charlton, Iowa, from 1966 to 1980.
She served with the Mennonite Central
Committee project in Ypsilanti, Mich., in 1945. She also served from
1948 to 1950, in a mission in Paraguay, South America.
She was a member of Bethel College
Mennonite Church in North Newton.
She enjoyed nature and was an avid
gardener and tree planter. She also enjoyed reading, history, sewing,
quilting, wood carving, drawing, cooking and traveling.
Other survivors include: one daughter,
Ruth Lohrenz of Quincy, Ill.; two sons, Paul Lohrenz of Silverthorne,
Colo., and Thomas Lohrenz of Wichita; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son,
William Lohrenz; one brother, Paul Claassen; and two sisters, Helen
Claassen Goertz and Anna Claassen.
Memorial services will be 2:30 p.m.
