Edith E. McKeown
BURNS -- Edith E. McKeown, 89, died
Saturday (Feb. 12, 2000) at Kidron Bethel Village in North Newton.
She was born Sept. 20, 1910, in
Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, to William Thomas and Emma (Stafford)
Haddow. She married Robert A. McKeown Aug. 7, 1937, in Hamilton,
Ontario, Canada. He preceded her in death Aug. 19, 1997.
She attended grade school and high
school in Hamilton, Ontario and graduated from Carbit Business
College in Hamilton. She worked in the city clerks office in
Hamilton.
She was a former member of Church of
England in Canada and was associated with the Presbyterian and
Episcopalian churches in the United States.
She worked in the office of the San
Diego Club in San Diego, and was an accountant for the Civil Service
at Camp Pendelton Marine Base in Oceanside, Calif., from 1957 to
1972. She retired in 1972.
In early years she participated in
golf, swimming and horseback riding.
She was on the Livingstone Ladies
Ontario Intermediate basketball championship team in 1937. She was an
artist, where she focused most of her attention on oils. She painted
scenic pictures from places she visited.
She enjoyed outdoors and driving
homemade dune buggies her husband made. She also enjoyed sewing
clothes and upholstering furniture.
Survivors include: one son, Gerald E.
Gerry McKeown of Oceanside, Calif.; one daughter, Anne R. Welsch of
Burns; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She also
was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Agnes Mary
"May" Thompson.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m.
Tuesday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Amanda
Rempel from Kidron Bethel Village officiating. Burial will be in the
Burns Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials have been established with
Kidron Bethel Village in care of the funeral home.
