Arraignment has been set for 8:30 a.m. March 14 for a Blue Mound man charged in Harvey County District Court with involuntary manslaughter while intoxicated in the Dec. 11 death of a Whitewater teen-ager in a two-car accident near Whitewater.

Edward Lewis, an employee of Eby Construction who maintains a temporary residence in Whitewater, waived his preliminary hearing Tuesday in Harvey County District Court.

Lewis is charged in the death of Karrie McCormick, 17, of Whitewater. The complaint alleges Lewis' blood alcohol level was above the statutory limit of .08 at the time his 1986 Jeep Cherokee crossed the center line on K-196 just west of Whitewater, colliding head-on with a vehicle driven by McCormick. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The charge marks the second time Lewis has stood trial for deaths stemming from a substance-related accident. In 1986, two Richmond men died and a woman was rendered incapacitated for life in an accident involving Lewis. He was convicted of two counts of vehicular homicide in that case, serving 18 months in prison.
