Bernie R. Pearson Sr.
Bernie R. Pearson Sr., 68, of Newton,
retired linesman from Williams Natural Gas service in Hesston, died
Thursday (Feb. 17, 2000) at Columbia Wesley Medical Center in
Wichita.
He was born July 21, 1931, in Newton to
John James and Beatrice Sue (Guest) Pearson. He married Victoria
Walters July 20, 1958, in Newton.
He was a member of Halls Chapel AME
Church and was former member of Rising Sun Masonic Lodge No. 69, both
of Newton. He was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking, athletics, and
playing dominos and solitaire.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from
1951 to 1953.
Survivors include: three sons, Bryan
Pearson of Lansing, Bernie Pearson Jr. of Pratt and Eric Pearson of
Newton; two daughters, Carol Lujano and Marilyn Pearson, both of
Newton; one brother, John "Buddy" Pearson of Albuquerque,
N.M.; four sisters, Barbara Mae Wright of Fredericksburg, Va.,
Frances Nadine Hudspeth and Norma Jean Pearson, both of Wichita and
Beatrice Yvonne Jones of Salina; eight grandchildren; and one
great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his
parents.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday
at Shalom Mennonite Church in Newton with the Rev. Phillip Kratzer
officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday with family greeting friends from 6
to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
Memorials have been established with
Central Homecare and Hospice in care of the funeral home.
