Walter L. Rodgers
FLORENCE -- Walter L. Rodgers, 94, of
Florence, retired street supervisor for the city of Newton, died
Thursday (Feb. 17, 2000) at Marion Manor.
He was born June 21, 1905, in
Zimmerdale to John and Elnora (Ferguson) Rodgers. He married Virgie
Maltbie. She survives of Florence.
He lived in Florence since 1973. He was
a member of Florence Christian Church and Florence American Legion.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received the
Purple Heart.
Other survivors include: three sons,
Dean Skinner of Joplin, Mo., Max Skinner of Florence and John Skinner
of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Mary Lou Schaffer of Florence and
Martha Dornbush of Marion; one sister, Bertha Zook of Hesston; nine
grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today
at Florence Christian Church with the Rev. Larry Timm officiating.
Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Florence with military
honors.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until
noon today at Zeiner Funeral Home in Florence.
