Robert A. 'Bob' Sauerwein
Robert A. "Bob" Sauerwein,
73, of Newton, self employed general contractor and farmer, died
Tuesday (Feb. 22, 2000) at Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.
He was born May 22, 1926, in Newton to
Charles P. and Nellie B. (Hawkey) Sauerwein. He married Ila Jean
Cummings May 30, 1948, in Newton. She survives of Newton.
He was a member of Salem United
Methodist Church in Newton. He served on the board of trustees and
Family Life Center building committee, both of the church.
He was a 4-H project leader. He was
co-founder and former board member of Harvey County Milk Haulers
Association, Newton Township board member for 15 years and member of
city of Newton codes and appeals board. He also was a member of
Newton Lodge No. 142 AF&AM, and Wichita Consistery. He enjoyed
driving a tractor.
Other survivors include: one son, Terry
Sauerwein of Newton; two brothers, Wilbur Sauerwein of Walton and
Ardith Sauerwein of Newton; seven sisters, Ruth Guthrie, Marjorie
Guthrie, Marion Winsor, Lucille Putnam, Charlene Hamm and Virginia
Bullard, all of Newton, and Elaine Stehman of Denver; and three
grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; one son, Dr. Tom D. Sauerwein; and two sisters, Gladys
Miller and Wilda Yarnell.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday
at Salem United Methodist Church in Newton with the Rev. C. Kent
Rogers officiating. Burial will be in the Restlawn Gardens of Memory
in Newton.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today
and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday with family greeting friends from 6:30
to 8 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home.
Memorials have been established with
Salem United Methodist Church or American Heart Association in care
of the funeral home.
