Mathilda 'Tillie' Hoyer
Mathilda "Tillie" Hoyer, 96,
of Newton, died Thursday (March 16, 2000) at Shiloh Manor in Canton.
She was born March 25, 1903, in
Fairmont, Okla., to Fred and Sophia (Kuhlmeier) Schroeder. She
married Herman J. Hoyer April 30, 1927, in Independence. He preceded
her in death April 24, 1964.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran
Church in Newton, where she was Sunday School teacher, Bible study
leader for 40 years, Ladies Aid and missionary league, all of the
church.
She attended St. John's College in
Winfield for three and a half years.
Survivors include: two sons, Merl Hoyer
of Newton and Charles Hoyer of Canton; one daughter, Vera Koehn of
Newton; one brother, Edwin Schroeder of Canton; one sister, Bertha
Hoyer of Greenbay, Wis.; four grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one
brother, Walter Schroeder; and two sisters, Esther John and Elsie
Wilkening.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday
at Zion Lutheran Church in Newton with the Rev. Ronald Gloe
officiating. Graveside services will be following in the Immanuel
Lutheran Cemetery in rural Canton with the Rev. Michael Sharp
officiating.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Petersen Funeral Home.

Lutheran Hour in care of the funeral home.
