Ray V. Nickel
Ray V. Nickel, 74, of Newton, died
Wednesday (March 22, 2000) at Newton Medical Center.
He was born May 23, 1925, in Newton to
Gerhard and Helena (Voth) Nickel. He married Marion Utz Aug. 15,
1947, in Wichita. She survives of Newton.
He served in the U.S. Navy from July
1943 to May 1946 in the South Pacific. He worked in the produce
department for Dillons for 47 and a half years. He was a life member
of VFW and a member of Newton Masonic Lodge No. 142 A.F. & A.M.
He attended First Baptist Church in Newton. He enjoyed woodworking,
remodeling and do it yourself kits.
Other survivors include: one sister,
Rose Breitenstein of Whitewater; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; two brothers, Milton Nickel and Allen Nickel; and one
sister, Luella Pixley.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday
at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Alden Dick
officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Friends may call until 9 p.m. today and
9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials have been established with
Caring Hands Humane Society in Newton or may be made to a charity of
donor's choice in care of the funeral home.
