Wilkens, Jean



Jean M. Wilkens, 89, died Friday (May 19, 2006) at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.

She was born Feb. 12, 1917, to J. Everard and Neva Ethel (Benfer) Moore in Newton. They preceded her in death. She married Loran F. Wilkens June 20, 1941, in Newton. He survives of Hesston.  She worked as a secretary and sometimes office manager for several businesses in the Wichita and Newton areas. She was a 1935 graduate of Newton High School. She spent most of her life in the Wichita area. She enjoyed music and was an accomplished organist. She was a generous, loving and steadfast person. She shared a warm smile and took time to show her love to Loran, son and grandchildren through acts of kindness, words and letters. She was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.

Other survivors include: a son, David A. Wilkens of Burlington; a sister-in-law, Mildred Lantis of Hesston; granddaughters, Michelle Wilkens of Wichita and Stephanie Wesselowski and husband Nathan of Milwaukee, Wis.; and a great-granddaughter, Lorelei Wesselowski of Milwaukee.  She also was preceded in death by a brother, Lt. Donald Moore.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hesston United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Schneider and Chaplain Beverly Baumgartner officiating.  Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials have been established with Hesston United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
