Doris Esther Hansen, 85, of Newton died
Saturday (Jan. 2, 2010) at her home.
She was born on Sept. 22, 1924, on a
farm near Peabody, the daughter of James Lilburn and Lula Taylor
Mellott. She attended school in Peabody. Doris married Robert Neil
Hansen on Aug. 30, 1942, at the Lutheran Church in Peabody.
For two years, Doris worked at Peabody
High School. She and her husband moved to Newton in 1946. For nearly
35 years, Doris was the office manager for doctors James and Gene
Enns and Dr. Richard Irwin in Newton.
She had been a member of Salem United
Methodist Church in Newton and the Newton Bowling Association.
Survivors include her husband, Bob, of
the home in Newton; daughter Norma Arnold of Hesston; three
grandchildren, Shawn, Kelly and Jennifer; seven great-grandchildren,
Tyler, Krystene, Tanner, Madyson, Emersyn, Jack and Lillian; and one
great-great grandchild, Landen.
Doris was preceded in death by her
parents; four brothers, Earl, Willis, Marvin and John Mellott; and
two sisters, Gladys Archer and Thelma Harris.
Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today
at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton, where the family will
receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m.
Tuesday at Salem United Methodist Church in Newton. Interment will be
at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Peabody.
Memorials have been established with
Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and Salem United Methodist Church.
