Johnson, Mary Jane

Newton Evening Kansan-Republican

MRS. ALFRED JOHNSON DEAD
Passed Away Last Night at Her Home In Emma Township.
Word reached the city this morning of the death last night of Mrs. Alfred Johnson of Emma township. She died of cancer after an illness of several months. The Johnson family are among the oldest settlers of this county and in their many years of residence here have made many friends. Both Mr. and Mrs. Johnson had reached a ripe old age and her taking away will be especially felt by him. They came to Kansas from southern Indiana and settled on a claim which is at present the family home. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson have been found to be excellent neighbors and many have enjoyed the good old time "Hoosier" hospitality of the Johnson home. The community will mourn the loss of a good woman and the family will no doubt be broken up by the loss of a wife and mother, as the husband and unmarried son, George Johnson, are the remaining members of the family. The funeral will be held Sunday morning at ten o'clock from the home, interment to be made in the Newton [Greenwood] cemetery.
