Zook, Paulette
Paulette Grace Loewen Zook, 64, passed away Aug. 9, 2014, at Asbury Park, Newton.
She
was born in Hillsboro, Dec. 21, 1949, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul
J. Loewen. In 1962, her family moved to Florence. She graduated from
Florence High School in 1967, and she was a 1968 Wichita Business
College graduate. She then worked for Beltone in Wichita. On Dec.
18, 1971, she married Ramon Russell Zook at the Florence United
Methodist Church. They made their home in Florence. One daughter,
Rebekah Ruth Zook, was born to this union. Paulette was first and
foremost a mother and wife. She never missed any of Beki's activities
and was a devoted companion to Ramon, as he drove all over the United
States making deliveries in his truck.
She gave back to Florence,
as she spent many years volunteering for the United Methodist Church,
Historical Society, Library Board, Labor Day committee, YWCA and
Florence High School Alumni Banquet. She also was a Florence news
correspondent for the Peabody Gazette-Bulletin, a part-time nurse for
Dr. Slifer and also sold Avon. Paulette hosted an annual hot dog roast
at her residence. Paulette served others by assisting the elderly
in the community. She would take them to doctor's appointments,
shopping, and would enjoy reminiscing about the good 'ole days in
Florence. She enjoyed traveling with Ramon and meeting new people
on every vacation they took. Their favorite places to visit were
Branson, San Antonio, Durango and the beaches of Florida.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Ramon R. Zook
of Florence; daughter, Rebekah R. Zook of Derby; granddog, Cooper Maya;
sisters, Jeanette M. Parmley (Timothy) of Florence, and Mashawn A.
Weber (Dale) of Florence; brothers-in-law, John C. Slifer III (Sheryl)
of Walton, and Lindley P. Slifer (Trudy) of Marion; four nieces, seven
nephews and their families. Paulette was preceded in death by her parents, Paul J. and Darlene G. (Davis) Loewen; and her parents-in-law, Dr. John C. and Eleanor M. (Philo) Slifer.
Visitation with family will be held 5
to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Zeiner Funeral Home of Florence. Funeral service
will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, at Florence United
Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Florence. Memorial fund established for Union Rescue Mission of Wichita, in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, P.O. Box 6, Marion, KS 66861.
