Doris Joan Duerksen, 79, died Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Kansas Christian Home. She was born January 19, 1935 on Wann, Oklahoma to Theodore and Lottie Bush Swanson. On March 6, 1953 she married Harin C. Duerksen at First Baptist Church in Newton and he survives of the home.
Joan was active member of the Newton Bible Church where she enjoyed meeting new peooplee iiviting them to their home and making them feel welcomed in church. She was also a member of the Christian Women's Organizaationn in Newton where she made many connections and friends while serving the Lord. She was a social person and enjoyed meals with her many friends.
After her retirement she enjoyed traveling and wintering in Arizona and she also enjoyed the move to the campus of Kansas Christian Home where she and her husband expanded their circle of friends.
Survivors: husband Harlin of Newton; daughters; Connie and Terry Tilson, Newton; Darla and Tim Stucky of Newton; Lori and Randy Harder of Andover and brother, Don Swanson of Phoenix, Arizona; 7 grandchildren and 13 great gr andchildren.
A celebration of Joan's life will be Saturday, August 9 at Newton Bible Church. Private family interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
