Erling Gene Andersen "Gene" 85, went to be with his Lord on Sunday,
September 7, 2014 at Kansas Christian Home in Newton. He was born on
March 31, 1929 in Denmark, Kansas to Niels Ludrig and Edna Julia
(Anderson) Andersen. He married Velma Jean (Gilbert) Campbell on June 4,
1970 in Demark, Kansas and she survives of the home.
Gene was a
member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Peabody, Kansas. He
graduated from Ft. Hays State University with a Bachelor's Degree and
earned a Master's Degree from Kansas State University. He served his
country in the United States Army during the
Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion. He was a retired school
teacher and also retired from AGCO in Hesston, Kansas.
Gene
is survived by his wife Velma of the home; daughter Marjorie Campbell
of Peabody, Kansas; sister in law Mary Andersen of Sylvan Grove, Kansas;
nieces and nephews: Angee and Mike Morgan of Lyndon, Kansas; and MarSue
and Doug Mackey Lawrence, Kansas; Troy Anderson, Trent and Mary Anderson, and Darren and Stephanie Whitcher; he is also survived by several great nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Gene
is preceded in death by his parents, sister Margaret Marie Whitcher and
brother Lloyd Andersen. He is also preceded in death by a son David Roy
Campbell.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date by Petersen Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, Kansas Christian Home, or Donor's Choice in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
