Neufeld, Barbara
The Newton Kansan
Barbara Neufeld, 80, passed away Sept. 9 at her home in Mission.
Barbara was born on April 23, 1934, in Newton to Leo and Mildred Haury Brandt. She went to Newton High School and graduated from Denver University with a degree in Elementary Education. Barbara
was married to Edgar Neufeld on Aug. 31, 1954; they celebrated their
60th wedding anniversary nine days before her death. After a
short stint of teaching kindergarten, she was a stay-at-home mom raising
three children. Later she was a Volunteer Director to non-profits. As
an Elder in Village Presbyterian Church she helped establish the
Volunteer Ministry and was its director for nine years. She had the gift
of helping people find their talents and matching them with
opportunities to help people. She supplied volunteers to more than 60
agencies in the Kansas City area. Barbara was active in the
Association of University Women (AAUW) and held positions at the local,
state and national levels. She served on the Board of the Salvation Army
Women's Auxiliary of greater Kansas City. She was a vice
president and spent two three-year terms as Treasurer. She was an Elder
at Second Presbyterian Church and served on the Worship and Personnel
Committees. She was a member of the Thursday study group. Barbara
and Ed traveled in Europe, enjoying hiking in the Swiss Alps, tulip
time in the Netherlands and riverboat cruises on the Rhine and Danube
rivers.
Barbara enjoyed her family and was a loving and proud mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Edgar; daughter, Nancy
Gatewood (Paul); sons, Dr. Timothy Neufeld (Terri) and Richard
McLean-Neufeld (Susan); grandchildren, Ellen and Carolyn Gatewood,
Christopher Neufeld (fiancée, Caroline Harrington), Lauren Fallon
(Steven), Courtenay Davis (Andy), Laura Neufeld (fiancée, Bryce
Duckett), Matthew Neufeld (fiancée, Melanie Stavenau), Michael and
Jennifer Neufeld. She
was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Dr. Richard
Brandt. Barbara's body has been donated to the Kansas University Medical
Center.
A Memorial Service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, at Second Presbyterian Church, Kansas City, Mo. Memorial
