Obituary

Stanley D. Grosch, 82, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014, at his Newton residence.

He was born Dec. 7, 1931, in Mahto, South Dakota, to Albert and Gracie Mae (Bangle) Grosch. On March 16, 1963, he married Shirley J. Ansberry at McPherson, Kansas, and she survives of the home.  Stanley was a longtime active member of First Christian Church in Newton, Kansas. He served as an usher at the church over the years. He was retired as a heavy equipment operator for Harvey County. Hunting was a favorite pastime, and he enjoyed spending time with his coffee group that met at the local Burger King. His family was very important to him and he looked forward to spending time with his loving family and many friends. He especially looked forward to trips to South Dakota to see his sister.

Stan is survived by his wife, Shirley of the home; sons and their families: Bryan and Roxanne Grosch of Newton, and their children Courtney and Shannon, Douglas and Trisha of Newton, and their children Chelsea and Shelby, Merle and Elieg of Lander, Wyoming, and Merle's son Andrew; daughter in law, Margie Clark of Abilene, and her daughter Laura and David's son William; daughter, Dawn and her husband Kelly Bush of Assaria, and their children Matthew, Chase and Jamie; brother, Billy Grosch of Newton; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  Stan is preceded in death by his son, David, parents, three sisters and three brothers.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014, at First Christian Church in Newton, with the Rev. Gary Bell presiding. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Monday evening at Petersen Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Private family burial will be at a later date in Ebenezer Baptist Church cemetery, rural Abilene.  Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
