Jantz, Marjorie
Marjorie J. Jantz, 92, passed away on Sept. 12, 2014. Marjorie was born on March 31, 1922, in Newton,
to Paul and Margaretha (Ensz) Enz. She graduated from Newton High
school and attended Bethel College in North Newton. Marjorie
married Willard Kurt Jantz on June 2, 1943. They resided in Wichita,
where they raised their three children until 1965, when they moved to
Prairie Village.
She was project director of Johnson County
Retired Senior Volunteer program, Assistant Director of Metropolitan
RVSP, co-director of the Johnson County Volunteer Bureau Agencies for
Senior Awareness, consultant for the Johnson County Parks Senior
Discount Program, Senior Arts Council and Arts Festival, and a chairman
for Johnson County Commission on Aging and the Advisory Council to the
Kansas Department of Aging. At Shepard's Center of Shawnee Mission, she
served as president and treasurer of the Board. Marjorie helped
establish Johnson County Older Women's League (O.W.L.). She served on
numerous boards: Services for Seniors Inc.; Legal Assistance for Senior
Adults Inc.; Associated Youth Services, Sharing Community Rosedale Inc.;
Human Resources Task Force; and Western District Conference Pastoral
Committee. Marjorie received honors, including "Senior Intern" to
Washington, D.C., in the Close Up program; J.C. Penney's Award for
Community Service, and the Shepherd's Center Hall of Fame. She was a
member of the Prairie Village Lions Club. She was a former member of the
Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church in Wichita and a current member of the
Rainbow Mennonite Church. Marjorie was passionately committed to her family, community and her church.
She
is survived by her three children, Margaret (Nelson) Gingerich,
Anchorage, Alaska, Kurt (Susie) Jantz, Wichita, Dr. Keith (Rebecca)
Jantz, Leawood; grandchildren, Angelina (Kendell) Warren, Petersburg,
Virginia, Brenda (Ryan) Henneberg, Wichita, Scott (Molly) Jantz,
Elmhurst, Illinois, Mark (Taryn) Hansen, Portland, Oregon, Shannon
Jantz, Shreveport, Louisiana, Taylor Jantz, Nashville, Tennessee; and
nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willard Kurt Jantz; grandson, Kyle Jantz; and sister, Lucile Enz.
Memorial services
will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at Rainbow Mennonite Church,
1444 Southwest Blvd., Kansas City, KS 66103. Visitation will follow. In
lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Rainbow
