Obituary

Harold M. Wetschensky, 93, of Newton, died Sunday (Oct. 12, 2014) at the Kansas Christian Home.

He was born on Nov. 23, 1920, in Newton, the son of Martin G. and Mary Brandewiede Wetschensky. Harold was raised and attended schools in Newton. He married Ethel E. Brunner on May 2, 1949, in Newton at Saint Mary's Catholic Church.

Harold had farmed for many years in the Newton area. He had also worked for Mayberry Furniture, doing deliveries along with floor and cabinet work. For a few years he had been a Park Ranger for Harvey County West Park and worked in the Assembly Department and Packaging Department at the Hesston Corporation. After retiring Harold and Ethel spent time in Pinetop, Arizona, where he enjoyed being close to his brother, Edward and his wife, Toots.  Harold was a member of the Knights of Columbus and had served as an usher for 20 years at St. Mary's Catholic Church. He also enjoyed being part of the church bowling league.  Harold loved to play the violin and played for many dances. In later years he passed the love of the violin on to his great-grandson, Keaton. He was a regular at Druber's Donut Shop for his daily buttermilk bar and conversation until moving to the Kansas Christian Home. He loved working in his yard and growing tomatoes as well as spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel; son, Martin; and daughter, Mary Collier and her husband, Tom all of Newton; two grandchildren, Michael Wetschensky and Shawn Wetschensky; three great-grandchildren, Keaton, Lakin and Haley Wetschensky.  Harold is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edward; and three sisters, Cecilia Yokoyama, Lucille Webster and Irene Rowland.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday (October 17, 2014) at the Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Inurnment will be held at a later date.  There will be no visitation or viewing as cremation has been effected.  A memorial has been established with St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Kansas Christian Home, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114.  Arrangements are by Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton.
