Rempel, Lee

Lee E. Rempel, 87, of Peabody, died on Sunday, December 14, 2014.

Lee was born on May 16, 1927, in Denver, Colorado. His parents were Ernest and Emma (Ewert) Rempel. He attended schools in the Peabody area and later served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

In May, of 1951, he married Arlene Joan Goenteal in Peabody. They were married for 57 years until her passing in 2008.  Lee was a retired farmer. He served on the Farm Bureau Board in Marion County, was a member of Haleyon Lodge #120, AF & AM-Postmaster, Doyle Creek Watershed Board and a member of the Peabody United Methodist Church. He was an avid K-State football and basketball fan.  A recent highlight was a trip taken with his son, David, to Washington, D.C., with the Honor Flight and other WWII veterans.

He is survived by his two children: Joleen and Mark Lyons of Newton and David and Jody Rempel of Peabody, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife: Arlene; father and mother: Ernest and Emma Rempel; and sister: Esther McIntosh.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at the Peabody United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held at Petersen Funeral Home of Newton on December 16, 2014 from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with the family present from 6:00 to 7:30 pm.  A private burial will be held prior to the service.  Memorials have been set up for the Peabody United Methodist Church, 403 N. Sycamore St., Box 146, Peabody, KS 66866, and the Peabody Senior Center, 106 N. Walnut St., Peabody, KS 66866.
