Obituary

Eldred L. Schroeder, 89, passed away Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, Kansas.

Eldred was born on Aug. 9, 1925, to Adolph and Clara (Ewy) Bachman on the same farm her father was born on south of Moundridge. Eldred married Howard J. Schroeder on March 3, 1950, in Halstead.  Howard and Eldred farmed all their married lives in the Halstead area. They raised chickens and sold eggs to many restaurants, grocery stores and care homes in the area and door to door in Newton and Wichita.  Eldred always had a large garden. She spent many hours each summer canning to fill the basement shelves for winter. She also loved to bake. Eldred also enjoyed sewing, piecing quilts and quilting. She was active at Garden Community Church for many years.  Howard and Eldred moved to Schowalter Villa in Hesston in 2008 due to Eldred's declining health.

Eldred is survived by her husband, Howard, Hesston; daughters, Rita (Terry) Ullum, Halstead, Denise (Tim) Hollingshead, Wichita; and daughter-in-law, Evelyn (Ron) Fisher, Wichita. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and sister-?in-law, Aline Bachman, Hesston. She was preceded in death by son, Eldon, and brother, Verne Bachman.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 15, 2014 at the Garden Community Church, rural Moundridge. Visitation with family present 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, December 14, 2014, at the Moundridge Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Garden Community Church Missions.
