Michael G. Ehss, 54, of Wichita is dead following a fatal accident at 6:04 p.m. Jan. 5 on U.S. 50 at Hillside near Walton.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the 2014 Toyota Camry Ehss was driving was eastbound on U.S. 50 and merged into the westbound lanes to pass another vehicle. The Camry struck a livestock semi head on. The semi came to rest on its side in the westbound ditch and also caught fire, with dozens of cattle inside.
"Once again, Highway 50 took another one," said T. Walton, Harvey County Sheriff. "He wanted to pass. If he would have just stayed where he was, within a minute or so, he would have been at the passing lanes. It was very sad."
The semi was driven by Jeffery Duhsmann, 47, of West Point, Nebraska. Duhsmann was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
